Hanna and Prakash

Hanna is a Finnish midwife. She came to Vellore, India, in January of 2003,as part of an MSc course in Disaster Relief Management, under the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland. Prakash was doing his post graduation course in Pathology at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. That's where we met and realised that we were meant for each other. Our wedding was in Bangalore, India, on 4th September, 2004.After our wedding, we stayed in Vellore till April, 2005 when Prakash completed his course at the Christian Medical College Vellore. We initially stayed in a single room at the Men's Internes' Quarters (affectionately known as MIQ). Hanna was glad she did not have to cook Indian food for Prakash thanks to the wonderful doctors' mess in the MIQ basement, which thrives under the supervision of Mrs. Gladys Ray, of British roots, whom we came to know fairly well. A few months later we moved to family accomodation at the Post Graduate Quarters. Hanna was glad for extra space and Prakash was glad for the free internet connection!

We moved to Finland in April,2005, where we now reside. We stay in a locality called Gesterby, which is part of the town of Kirkkonummi, one of the bigger towns in Finland, located about 40km from the capital , Helsinki. Prakash works at present in a town called Lohja about 30km from Kirkkonummi. Of course, he works in a Pathology department, and is in the process of writing examinations that will entitle him to the Licentiate of Medicine, in Finland. The process involves learning the Finnish language, which , in Prakash's opinion,is a very beautiful language, second only to French, in terms of beauty. And of course, you ask, what do we speak with each other at home. Actually, more Hanglish than Prannish. Now you figure that out!

Our son John was born on September 18, 2005. He required high level neonatal care in Helsinki and it was a time of trial for us to wait at his bedside from day to day not knowing which way things would turn. But we thank God for His mercy thus far and those of you amongst our friends and relatives who prayed for us and still continue to do so.
